First Southern Cross Stadium home game for the Canberra Capitals this season. Without the fully informative score board, it is very hard to keep track of the game while photographing the actions. It wasn’t until I got home did I realize Natalie Hurst top-scored again with 25 points! One piece of stat which draw my particular attention is Capitals got 8 points from grabbing offensive rebounds, where it’s a zilch for Bulleen Boomers. Big difference, and credit goes to Abby Bishop and Marianna Tolo’s 10 offensive rebounds combined. Congratulations to the Capitals to another win at home and stay tuned for tomorrow’s action when AIS meets Bulleen Boomers, exclusive on our Canberra Pictorial website.

CANBERRA CAPITALS 99 (Nat Hurst 25, Abby Bishop 17, Michelle Musselwhite 16) bt
BULLEEN BOOMERS
80 (Shelley Hammonds 18, Desiree Glaubitz 15, Elyse Penaluna 14)

Honestly, at one point of time, I seriously thought Jess Bibby is going to destroy AIS single-handedly. The AIS held on to gain back some ground after a poor first quarter. But then there is more Jess Bibby to come. Bibby top-scored with 22 points and together with Abby Bishop chipping in 16 points with 10 rebounds, Canberra Capitals finished off the match with a comfortable lead of 33 points. Canberra Capitals now sit 2nd on the overall ladder with Adelaide Lightings.

October 24, 2008WNBL AIS vs Perth Lynx @ AIS Training Hall

After losing the first 3 matches this season, you kind of expect the AIS to get this one right tonight when they meet the Perth Lynx. With the biggest leading margin being 22 points, and constantly maintaining a 15 points lead through out the night, AIS fought hard to win this well-deserved battle. Foul trouble still seems to be in the air though, AIS said good bye to Elizabeth Cambage and Stephanie Cumming at the fourth quarter. But the girls held on and scored their first win in the season after all.

October 11, 2008WNBL AIS vs Sydney Flames @ AIS Training Hall

So Sydney Flames has finally opened up their account this season. This win was so close to skip from their hands. A very strong Q3 performance from the home side (23 points) nearly drove the Sydney flame out of the game (they only scored 7 in Q3). I think this is the first, including last season, time that I see people actually cheering for Team AIS.

October 10, 2008WNBL Canberra Capitals vs Sydney Flames @ AIS Arena

Caps off to a very good start by securing their 3-consecutive wins in the start of the 2008/09 season. At their first home game at the AIS Arena, crowd was pumped, and packed to see all the actions! I think 50% of the people actually came to see our Canberra-born Lauren Jansen top play her first ever WNBL match at at age of 15!. You got to give credit to this great achievement.
